Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, PhD
Three Decades of Faith in Action
Born and raised in Nima, Accra, John Kobina Louis felt the call to the priesthood early. After completing his education at St. Augustine's College in Cape Coast, he entered St. Peter's Regional Seminary in Pedu, where he studied ecclesiastical sciences for six years before being ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Accra in 1992.
From his very first assignment as an assistant parish priest at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Tema — where he oversaw four parishes including St. Joseph the Worker — it was clear that Fr. Louis was not content to simply maintain; he was called to build. Over the next decade, he served as parish priest, financial administrator of the Archdiocese, director of the Pastoral Centre, and spiritual director to the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer Sisters.
His intellectual passion led him to Rome, where he earned a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology (STL) from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in 2004. He later completed a PhD in the Study of Religions at the University of Ghana in 2014, with a doctoral thesis on the reception of Vatican II ecclesiology in the Ghanaian Church.
As Cathedral Administrator of the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra for six years, and later as Academic Dean and Acting President of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT), Bishop Louis combined pastoral leadership with rigorous academic formation — shaping the next generation of Catholic thinkers in Ghana.
In 2019, he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Accra. Then, on April 19, 2023, he was ordained an auxiliary bishop — a recognition of decades of faithful, tireless service to the Church in Ghana and beyond.

Academic Background
The Word in Season and out of Season
Bishop Louis is best known for his homilies — delivered with clarity, warmth, and deep Scriptural grounding. What began as Sunday preaching at parishes across the Archdiocese has grown into a library of hundreds of homilies covering every Sunday and solemnity of the three-year liturgical cycle.
His published volumes, The Word in Season and out of Season (Years A, B, and C), are used by priests, catechists, and lay faithful across Ghana and beyond. Each homily connects the ancient Scriptures to the realities of life in Ghana and the wider world — addressing everything from the Eucharist to environmental stewardship, from social justice to personal holiness.
Today, his homilies reach a global audience through this website, YouTube, Substack, and Odysee, fulfilling the Pauline charge to preach the Word "in season and out of season" (2 Timothy 4:2).
